What's new

Industry accreditation for tourism courses

TAFE NSW – South Western Sydney Institute was recently awarded with certification as an Authorised Training Centre (ATC) for its travel and tourism courses by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

IATA is a worldwide association of more than 270 airlines and it has approved the Institute to deliver its course. South Western Sydney is the first TAFE Institute in Australia to be given the prestigious Authorised Training Centre status by IATA, and is now one of only three IATA-accredited ATCs in Australia.

The course, run as a series of workshops, is designed to give users of Microsoft Office added confidence in using Microsoft Office 2007. It covers all the features of MS Office, including Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint and OneNote – soon streamlining spreadsheets, updating databases and developing perfect presentations will be a breeze!

Passport to hospitality work

Responsible Service of Alcohol – TAFE PLUS Statement

If you’re planning a career in the hospitality industry, this is a great time of year to start. And if you are going to be in an environment where you’re serving or handling alcohol – bars, clubs, hotels, a licensed cafe or restaurant – then you’ll need a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate.

Endorsed by the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing and the NSW Liquor Administration Board, the course covers responsible service strategies; the legal obligations of bar staff; and the strengths and effects of alcoholic beverages and standard drinks. You will also learn about smoking regulations and the benefits of responsible service strategies.

When you finish, you can apply to do other TAFE PLUS beverage service courses or the Certificate II in Hospitality Operations.
